PALINUROThe former small fishing town in the middle of the Cap of Palinuro is a town with a large variety of sports and leisure opportunities and lots of smaller country typical handicraft stores. Here you can enjoy a stroll along the various stores. The town as well as the cap originates from the legend of Palinuro. According to the myth, was the helmsman of the Aeneas during his navigations attempt around the rocky cliffs not able to withstand the chanting of the siren and was attracted by it towards the cliffs and drowned.
Around the cap, the ocean excavate numerous natural grottos, among them also the famous blue grotto. The power of the ocean is also responsible for the creation of several deserted and unique sandy beaches, that can partly only be reached by boat.
On the southern sides you will find, not far from the cap, the rock Coniglio in the ocean. This famous rock is actually a rock formation that looks like a squatted bunny. A little further you can see the Arco naturale, which is a natural rock arch at the river ending of the Mingardo. High above at 200 meters on the cap grows the Primula palinuri, an endemic species of a flower that is also part of the emblem of the Parco nazionale del Cilento e Vallo di Diano.
