OGLIASTROThe town of Ogliastro is a typical town of the hilly Cilento. Ogliastro’s Marina is situated in an extensive sandy bay on the southern end of the Punta Licosa. At the foot of the hill you will find the so-called Zona resideziale, which is a widespread and well taken care of residential area without stores. On the piazza, close by the harbor, where you will find mostly fishing or leisure boats, is a small bar as well as a fish restaurant that is famous for its quality. From here you can start beautiful and extensive hikes through park structures of a big Italian publisher which will lead you eventual up to his villa where you will have the most beautiful view over the Amalfi coast and the island of Capri. These large (numerous kilometer long) romantic and untouched areas are free to use for the non-motorist public.
The coastal area of Punta Licosa with all its glory is also know as the “Parco marittimo“, the so called Underwater Nature protection area. Especially important is the small lizard kind that lives here on the offshore non-inhabitant island. An old legend gave Punta Licosa its name. According to the story, on the land was a siren located called Leucosia. This siren used to guide the road companion Odysseus with its lovely chant. Odysseus could not withstand the temptation, followed the sound of the siren and lost his life here on his way home to Ithaka.
