METOIOOn the panoramic rich location, along the mountain range of the backcountry of Velia, stretches the small town of Metoio. Here you can get a wonderful view over the extensive nature of the Cilento; further down, the coast widens into the plateau of Velia. Framed by a beautiful hill ridge you will find the azienda “Petrosa” on one side and on the other side is the “Salicuneta”, which is an extensive and soft valley with the river Palistro.
If you look into the backcountry you will see the massive mountain range of Monte Gelbison (1780 meter). Here in Metoio you won’t find a town center and the local meeting place is situated at a local restaurant, which is a typical family owned pizza store.
Metoio is a nice starting point for hikers or bicyclers who are not afraid of slight inclines and who will find a variety of small, almost not used street from where one can start to explore the entire Cilento. You can reach the 7 km sandy beach at the Gulf of Velia after just a few minute car ride or just simply by bike.
